We are an organization of brotherhood and sisterhood, honoring, respecting and representing the legacy and rich history of the United States Army's Cavalry and Infantry Buffalo Soldiers, enacted in 1866 after the Civil War. The Buffalo Soldiers began as six regiments of Black Soldiers of the 60 regiments created during America's reconstruction period, and after the 39th Congress passed the Army Organization Act. During peacetime, the Buffalo Soldiers mainly served on the Western frontier. They were generally deployed as peace keepers of law and order during that period.

Today, our mission is to provide history to the public on the Buffalo Soldiers and their awesome contribution to America. In honoring the original Buffalo Soldier's spirit and dedication to serve, we conduct numerous community service events and projects across the country to help the communities we represent with emphasis on our young people.

We are over 100,000 strong, wearing various center patches on our backs, but all in the Buffalo Soldiers brotherhood and sisterhood across the United States. We represent one legacy and one history, the "Buffalo Soldiers."

MOTORCYCLE RIDING SAFETY TIPS

2024 MOTORCYCLE SAFETY SEMINAR

Warmer days are coming and motorcycle riding will be in full swing soon. This means understanding motorcycle safety is essential for all riders, their passengers and motorist. Being aware of your motorcycle riding limitations, street hazards, personal protective equipment and safety precautions will assist in mitigating risks. During this motorcycle riding season in Ohio, riders must be aware and prepared to ensure a safe riding season by first assessing their own safety practices, then assessing their abilities and skills to operate a motorcycle safely. Along with knowing a pre-check of your motorcycle, which is labeled (TCLOCK), meaning Tires, Controls, Lights, Oil, Chassis and Kickstand and your motorcycle skill level, it will help you make this riding season the safest for the community, other motorist, pedestrians and you. So come join us at the Toledo Buffalo Solders' Post 2024 Motorcycle Safety Seminar and together we can have a safe 2024 riding season.

We will also host our 2024 Bike Blessing event too. It will be conducted by Pastor Car Mitchell, of Restore Church The Bible Way after the seminar.

**TEACHING CHILDREN ABOUT GUN SAFETY AND WHAT TO DO**

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), every year over 8,000 children are shot in the U.S. averaging 22 children between 1-17 years old among those statistics each day. Of those, 1,839 children die from gun violence, with 992 being murdered and 693 die from gun suicide. Recently in Toledo, Ohio, a 7 month old and 10 year old were killed by gunshot while riding in a car in separate violent incidents. We are working with schools and other community organizations and the law enforcement community to provide vital gun safety information to families and our young people. We have also partnered with the NRA to provide their Eddie Eagle Gun Safe Program to children. If you are interested, you may contact the Toledo Buffalo Soldiers Post at (419) 536-7048, tbsmc@toledobuffaolsoldiers.org or the NRA at eddie@nrahq.org.

Also, part of the program provides lifesaving information on what a child should do if they find themselves in a car or at home when they hear gun shots. If riding in a car and someone is shooting a gun, unbuckle the seatbelt and lay down on the floor of the car immediately. If you are outside and shooting is heard near you, lay on the ground right where you are immediately until the shooting stops. If you are at home, and someone is shooting into your home, lay in the floor right were you are immediately until the shooting is over. Once you are safe and you have a phone, dial 911 and tell the person on the other end what happened and summon police officers.
