The film is a loose remake of the 1948 Cary Grant comedy film Mr. Blandings Builds His Dream House, and was filmed in New York City and Lattingtown, New York, and was co-executive produced by Steven Spielberg.

2. If the house seems underpriced, there's a reason why. The home that Walter and Anna buy is a million-dollar property that's been priced to move at $200,000. This is a bargain for a mansion just an hour outside New York City (while New York has some lovely affordable cities, they are all quite far away from NYC).

After Walter and Anna have hauled two two-gallon buckets of water up the ladder and dumped them into the bathtub, Walter goes back downstairs and, after the kitchen fire, brings up the third recently heated on the stove. That is also dumped into the tub, causing the tub to crash through the floor and land below.
