BERARD, ARTLHEMISE
Widow of Balthezar Berard, nee Artlhemise Leblanc died on her plantation, St Martin parish, Sunday the fifth inst. at two o'clock in the morning, at the age of 71 years. Mrs. Berard was a noble Christian old lady, esteemed and respected by all those who knew her. She was buried from the Catholic church Monday evening at five o'clock, and large was the concourse of relatives and friends who followed her mortal remains to their last resting place. BIENVENU, BLANCHE
Mrs. W. A. Bienvenu, nee Blanche Marrionneaux, died last Saturday morning, the 4th inst., at 7:30 o'clock, after a lingering illness of over 2 months. Mrs. Bienvenu was aged 46 years and 8 months; she leaves a husband and five children to mourn her untimely demise. Mrs. Widow Edgar Bienvenu, nee Elise Potier, died on her plantation in this parish, Saturday December 31st 1898, at 1 o'clock in the morning, after a brief illness. Mrs. Bienvenu was aged 65 years. Felix Thelismar Bienvenu died Saturday, the 8th inst., at 2:30 o'clock in the evening, at the age of 37 years. Mr. Bienvenu was sick only fifteen days. He was buried at 11 o'clock Sunday morning. BOUEVALT, WILLIAM
Mr. William Bouevalt died here Monday morning and was buried at 3 o'clock the same evening. Mr. Bouevalt, who was aged 64 years, arrived here from Lake Charles Saturday afternoon and said he was feeling unwell, but was up on the streets until late that evening. BREAUX, EDWARD
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 30, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church for Edward Breaux, 90, who passed away November 22, 2009 at St. Martin Hospital. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He is survived by his nephew, Harold (Paula) Breaux; grandsons, Gerald Dugas, Warren Dugas and Eugene Mouton; great grandchildren, Dwayne Edmond, Delshawn Edmond, Latasha Celestine, Comarita Shelton, Sharon Cluse, Lanette Williams, Vanessa and Blake Breaux, Warren Hebert, Claudia, Shirley and Eugene Martinez and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Guidry Breaux; his father Oscar Breaux; mother, Euchariste Breaux; his brothers, Charles, Elmo, Francis and Chester Breaux; his sisters, Mary Simon and Adna Andres; step-son, Warren Dugas, Sr. and step-daughter, Shirely Dugas Breaux. The family would like to give special thanks to Maison de Williams Adult Day Care. Visitation will be held Monday, November 30, 2009 at Syrie Funeral Home beginning at 7 a.m. until time of service. BROUSSARD, GASTON
Mr. Gaston Broussard died at his home in Breaux Bridge Friday of last week at the age of 52 years. His remains were brought here Saturday morning and laid at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George Livingston until the time of the funeral at six o'clock in the evening. Mr. Broussard was formerly a citizen of St. Martinville. He was the father of Mrs. George Livingston, Mrs. Seymour Broussard and Mr. Adolphe Broussard of St. Martinville, and a brother to Mrs. J. A. Saturday last there was a double funeral here which was a sad one, that of brother and sister. Mrs. George Hebert, nee Mathilde Broussard, aged 26 years, died at Port Arthur, Texas, and her brother, Louis Broussard, Jr, also died in Port Arthur and their bodies were shipped at the same time and arrived here together and the same funeral service served for both. BROUSSARD, VIOLA
Death of Miss Viola Broussard
The sad news was flashed over the wires Tuesday morning that Miss Viola Broussard was dead.
Miss Broussard had gone to New Orleans last week and was operated upon at the Touro for a serious intestinal trouble, and death followed shortly after the operation.
Her body was brought here Wednesday on the evening train and her funeral took place immediately after from the Catholic church.
Miss Broussard was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. G. Broussard and was aged 20 years and 10 months. (The Weekly Messenger, St. Martinsville, La., June 5, 1915 - vm)
DAUTREUIL, ARISTIDE
Tuesday morning at 4 o'clock, Mr. Aristide Dautreuil was found dead in his bed. He was 84 years of age and a Confederate Veteran. He was buried at 4 o'clock the same evening. [The Weekly Messenger., February 23, 1918, pg.1]
DE MAHY, CARMEN
Friday evening at 6:30 o'clock, Mrs. Marcel J. de Mahy, nee Carmen Fleming, died in New Orleans at the age of 31 years. Her remains were brought here and her funeral took place at five o'clock Sunday evening. This death is a sad one, her husband died on October 8th and she died on October 25th., her brother, Lieut. L. G. Fleming died on October 4th., and her nephew Alan L Labbe died September 30th., four deaths in the family in less than one months. Mis. FERRAN, MRS. J. B.
Died, Tuesday morning at 1:30 o'clock, Mrs. J. B. Ferran, nee Mathilde Delahoussaye died at her home in St. Martinsville, at the age of 65 years and ten months.
Her funeral took place from the Catholic Church, at 5:30 o'clock Tuesday evening and her remains were followed to the grave by a large concourse of relatives and friends.
Mrs. Ferran was a woman who lived entirely at home, giving all her attention to her husband, children, sister and home duties, and would only go out of her home to visit the church. She was good, kind, and sweet in disposition, and never would say a word that would offend or hurt anyone, she lived and died a true Christian, and her dear ones have the satisfaction of knowing that her earthly sufferings are ended, and that she is now beginning to receive the reward of one who has lived an exemplary life. Mr. George Fournet, Jr., died at 6:30 o'clock Wednesday morning at the age of 17 years and was buried at 9 o'clock Thursday morning. Dr. Frederick W. Hart, died at his residence in St. Martinville, at 9 o'clock Saturday morning last, the 10th inst, at the age of 80 years. Mr. Charles Lastrapes, an old resident of the Fifth Ward of St. Martin parish died last Saturday. LEWIS, JAMES
James Lewis, a colored man of this town, who spent his life steamboating, and who was well known and respected by all the people on the Teche from St. Martinville to Morgan City, died suddenly at Morgan City, and his remains were brought here for interment. LIVINGSTON, W. H.
Mr. W. H. Livingston died at his home, in this town, at 1:45 o'clock Saturday evening, the 2nd inst, after an illness of only six days. Mr. Livingston, at the time of his death was 42 years, 11 months and 21 days. He was buried from the Episcopal church at 9 o'clock Sunday morning, Rev. C. C Kramer, of New Iberia, officiating. Considerable false rumors had been circulated that Mr. Livingston hail died of yellow fever, and some people in this town as well as in the neighboring towns seemed to give credance to the rumor and several inquiries have been made regarding the cause of the death of Mr. Livingston. Mayor Labbe called on Health officer Sillan who attended to Mr. Livingston in his last moments, who filed his report with the Mayor, stating that Mr. Livingston had died of liver trouble, which was a chronic disease. This has quieted the rumor and the fear entertained by some of our people has disappeared.
Died on the 2nd of October. Mr. W. H. Livingston of St. Martinville: A man universally respected by white and black, a Simple, kindly, honest gentleman, one of nature's noblemen, a friend whom nothing daunted, a devoted husband and a loving father. His friends will miss his open hearted sympathies his beloved wife and children will miss the loving protector and his colored dependents will miss "boss" like whom they thought there was no other. Why he was taken, we cannot tell for he fed the hungry and clothed the naked, his sphere of usefulness was great, but, the Father wanted him and He knoweth best. He may sleep, but not forever. In the lone and silent grave; Blessed be the Lord that taketh Blessed be the Lord that gave. MARTIN, LEONARD
News was received here Monday morning, that Leonard Martin, a son of Dr. G. W. Martin of Arnaudville, and brother of Sheriff Wade O. Martin, had died at Arnaudville, Monday morning, at the age of 19 years. Leonard attended our High School here for several years and was considered as one of our boys.
